  1. We need to reduce the easy access to guns. There should be stringent requirements in terms of training and background checks before a person can obtain a firearm.

  2. I feel like most of the shooters are smart young men who have failed to thrive. Maybe mandatory national service for a year after high school? Preferably away from home so people will have to mix more???

  3. Well… We need common sense gun laws, with waiting periods and background checks. We need better mental health care and outreach. We need stronger communities so that people feel less isolated.
In addition, it’s very often the case (especially with school shooters) that a shooter *was* reported to police in advance of shooting by concerned peers/coworkers/etc., but that a report was never followed up on. I don’t know how to do this nationally but there needs to be a better protocol for this.
The online environment is very dangerous and promotes extremism and nihilism. Tackling this will be the greatest challenge but also get us the most mileage.
